Event Information
UNC AI Builders Meetup
This “builder” focused event is open to all of our UNC community interested in exploring the tools, frameworks, and technologies used in today's AI-related solutions. These events focus on sharing real-world examples of AI topics of interest and providing a peer-driven forum for collaboration and learning. Bring your lunch and come join us!
This month's session offers a hands-on introduction to Azure AI hosted models available through the Provost’s AI Acceleration program. We'll begin with an overview of the available services and model offerings, including chat completion models like GPT, embedding models, and other capabilities you can integrate into your own applications and research workflows. Whether you're curious about building a chatbot, exploring retrieval-augmented generation, or simply want to understand what's possible with modern AI APIs, this session will give you a practical foundation to start experimenting.
After the overview, attendees will receive temporary API access and work through a series of guided hands-on labs designed to take you from your first API call to building more sophisticated interactions with the models. No prior experience with Azure or AI APIs is required, just bring a laptop, your curiosity, and an appetite for learning. By the end of the session, you'll have working code examples you can adapt and build upon for your own projects.
This is an in-person only event.
This event is co-sponsored by the University Library and Research Computing.
