AI for Research: Getting Started with GenAI: Tools, Privacy, Copyright, and Ethics

The AI for Research (AIR) workshop series is a collaboration between the Odum Institute and the University Library.

This introductory workshop offers a practical overview of generative AI for UNC affiliates. Participants will learn the basics of GenAI, explore PromptLab as an AI platform available to the UNC community, and discuss key considerations for using AI responsibly. Topics will include privacy and security, copyright, and ethical issues related to AI use in academic and professional settings. Designed for beginners, this session will help attendees build confidence in evaluating and using GenAI tools thoughtfully and responsibly.

This workshop will use UNC's AI platform called PromptLab. PromptLab is available to all UNC Affiliates with a UNC username and password (onyen). This workshop is open to anyone, but only UNC affiliates will be able to follow along hands-on.

This workshop is offered by the Odum Institute and the University Library and will be led by Michele Hayslett and Gracie Riehm.
