AI for Research: Coding with AI

The AI for Research (AIR) workshop series is a collaboration between the Odum Institute and the University Library.

Interested in exploring how Generative AI can support your programming projects? Whether you’re new to coding or experienced, AI tools can support learning, troubleshooting, and refining code. This workshop introduces common ways to use AI in programming workflows, with an emphasis on open programming languages such as R and Python. We’ll use PromptLab, a privacy-focused AI chat platform for UNC-Chapel Hill affiliates, and survey other tools and platforms in the space.

Coding with Generative AI will cover practical use cases for AI-assisted programming, including when these tools may or may not be helpful and strategies for using them effectively in data-focused programming contexts.

This workshop will use UNC's AI platform called PromptLab. PromptLab is available to all UNC Affiliates with a UNC username and password (onyen). This workshop is open to anyone, but only UNC affiliates will be able to follow along hands-on.

This workshop is offered by the Odum Institute and the University Library and will be led by Rolando Rodriguez and Matthew Jansen.

This workshop is being offered remotely via Zoom only. Registrants will receive a Zoom link; those on the waitlist will not receive a Zoom link unless they are bumped up to a registered spot. After the workshop, registrants and those on the waitlist will receive a link to the workshop recording.
