Event Information

Sound + Silence with Abigail Washburn

Join Abigail Washburn, banjo player and Carolina Performing Arts DisTIL Fellow, for a series of gatherings to explore silence as a mechanism for deeper understanding. Each event will take place 3 - 3:50 p.m. and will feature a special guest musician, as follows:

Monday, April 22............Béla Fleck, banjo
Tuesday, April 23.......... Martha Redbone, vocals
Wednesday, April 24..... Tatiana Hargreaves, fiddle
Thursday, April 25..........Teli Shabu, kora
Friday, April 26...............Che Apalache, Latin bluegrass

At each event, Washburn and her guests will create music that will emerge from silence, and then re-enter silence in the setting of Wilson Library's Fearrington Reading Room, one of the most beautiful spaces on Carolina's campus.

You will be asked to leave personal devices, and bags, at the front door. Please be prepared to sit silently for 45 minutes.

All are welcome. Free and open to the public. Limited space. Please arrive early.
