Introduction to GRASS

This will be the third of three, 2-hour hands-on workshops using open source GIS software. This short course will focus on GRASS GIS, using the GRASS stand-alone user interface. Topics covered will include the GRASS user interface, GRASS vector and raster data formats, GRASS vector, raster, and imagery analysis, GRASS 3-D data (voxels), the raster map calculator, the print composer, and other GRASS capabilities.

This is a hands-on workshop that will require a computer with the software installed. If possible, attendees should bring a laptop to participate, as there are a limited number of desktop computers. Download QGIS (www.qgis.org) on your laptop before the class (QGIS includes a current version of GRASS). Bring a flashdrive to class to download the data and tutorials. At the end of the course, students will have a general ability to use QGIS and GRASS, and can continue learning on their own using the data and tutorials provided.
